It’s a rare person who, at some time or another, has not sought a change in current circumstance, relationship or employment, or has desired to make a dream come true. That’s life: always closing doors, opening others and sometimes, even when the door to greater fulfillment is within reach, it can’t be seen by the individual who could thrive after passing through that door.
Savannah Mayfield is a certified personal coach who gained her certification by attending a yearlong coaching program through the Institute for Professional Empowerment Coaches. The school is accredited by the International Coaching Federation.
Mayfield’s certification was just the icing on the cake. She says she has always had a gift for listening and connecting with people.
“When I was younger, I considered becoming a counselor or therapist because people seemed drawn to share their feelings with me and ask my advice,” she says.
She is also quick to point out the difference between coaching and counseling. She defines counseling as a therapeutic process to help you heal from the past and deal with emotional challenges like depression or anxiety.
“Coaching is about action and moving forward with intention,” she says. “I often work with clients after they come through the counseling process and are ready to take their next steps.”
