Author and actress Carrie Fisher said that a man once told her he didn’t like “that side of her.”
“I don’t come in sides. One side fits all,” she cleverly retorted.
We are so much more than the eye can see. Our past shapes our personalities. That is one reason to see the movie “Nine” – so much more than a musical. Beneath the song and dance is a tormented director, Guido Contini (Daniel Day-Lewis), who in a mid-life crisis must come to terms with his past, visit and heal his inner wounds, and grow up.
Following the story line of a movie is much tidier than tracking the progress of our personal lives. Good stories have a beginning, middle and end. Most of our lives dovetail and twist, and moments of personal breakthroughs don’t come in the form of one-line epiphanies, set to music against breathtaking backdrops.
